Interestingly, the prepackaged 2.4.3 release (i.e. SGI had compiled it)
did not display this behaviour.
Probably because it included patches to make the kernel compile decently
with their 2.96 compiler.
Every program has two purposes one for which
it was written and another for which it wasn't
I use the last kind.
