It seems that the problem that was fixed in
is back again. gcc 3.1 is barfing on some typical errors like weird
characters at the end of the file on non-existant lines. mapcheck
finds files to fix every time those source files are generated.

Kernel is CVS from 2002-08-03 11:48 UTC (the one directly after the 2.4.19
final release).
