How trivial are we talking about?  My C is about as good as 'hello world'

then use the xfs split patches against a mainline 2.4.21, and don't
apply the kdb split patch.

OK, i'm trying that and not having much luck:

# patch  -p1 --dry-run < ../xfs-2.4.21-split-kernel
patching file mm/filemap.c
Hunk #2 FAILED at 2960.
Hunk #3 FAILED at 2981.
Hunk #4 FAILED at 3159.
Hunk #5 succeeded at 3282 with fuzz 1 (offset 86 lines).
3 out of 5 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file mm/filemap.c.rej
