I'm not sure if noatime is the default. I do mount my filesystems as
"noatime" and "nodiratime". I use the tuning methods described at:
Common threads: Advanced filesystem implementor's guide
My /etc/fstab entries look like this:
LABEL=/usr /usr xfs noatime,nodiratime 1 2
