It fixes a lot of issues including the file corruption during power-off. I do remember that someone else encountered this with a read_only opened file as well but not what the cause was. Upgrading to 1.1 gives you a lot more robust XFS kernel then what yuo have now and it's handling of open files will possibly be very different in behaviour then what you see now.
