XFS does much more internal checking then other filesystems. xfs_fsr runs on mounted filesystems, but its rarly necessary. as for checking, windows can't check a filesystem which is in use either, it
how can you find something BEFORE it happens? if it's BEFORE then nothing has gone wrong yet windows can't do a 100% check on a live fs last i checked, in suck cases it actually will do the check on
