The volume group I created was as far as I know a "default" setup... If I'm going to try to re-create the VG, the /dev/hdb1 (dying 200gig Maxtor ) will be dd' d to a 250gig drive, different size. Sin

This is strange. When you reinstalled the OS, did you by change erase /dev/hda4? Also, what do: pvdisplay /dev/hda4 and pvdisplay /dev/hdb1 say? Iustin

Yes, I think your correct like an idiot I should verify the file system on the drive, I assumed it's XFS... Can that be determined from the original disk in the LVM? How can I tell what it was format
